Manuel Doblaré and Marina Perez participate in the European Conference on Mathematical and Theoretical Biology
Our Ph.D. student Marina Pérez Aliacar together with Professor Manuel Doblaré have been in Lisbon taking part in the European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering ECCOMAS2024, held from June 3rd to June 7th.
Prof. Manuel Doblaré gave a fantastic invited talk titled “On Modelling cell plasticity in continuum mathematical biology” where he explained the different approaches to cell plasticity, from remodellation to epigenetics, using examples such as bone remodelling or glioblastoma adaptation to hypoxia.
On the other hand, Marina presented one of the latest works of her Ph.D., entitled “Mathematical Modelling of in vitro Glioblastoma Adaptation to Evaluate its Response to Chemotherapy with Temozolomide” in which the general framework for cell plasticity explained by Prof. Doblaré is applied to simulating the acquisition of drug resistance in glioblastoma in vitro cultures. It is indeed really important to understand how resistance is triggered since it is one of the main reasons behind treatment failure and the dismal prognosis in glioblastoma. A great work together with Jacobo Ayensa and Manuel Doblaré can be found following this link.
It was great to participate in such an amazing conference in the incredible city of Lisbon! Looking forward to the next one!
