

After finishing her PhD studies, Estela Solanas was awarded with a two-year Postdoctoral Fellowship by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Education (2006) to work at the School of Food Biosciences (University of Reading, UK) in the field of probiotics and prebiotics under the supervision of Professors Bob Rastall and Glenn Gibson. In this postdoctoral period, she worked as well with intestinal in vitro models, obtaining considerable experience in the different areas of research.
In 2008, she started working as postdoctoral researcher at the Aragon Health Sciences Institute (IACS), in the group of Digestive Pathologies. There, her work was focused on the study of regenerative therapies for liver diseases, specifically on the study of the role of liver and hematopoietic stem cells in liver diseases, the development of liver in vitro models and the isolation and culture of human primary hepatocytes. As a result of her work, she published multiple peer-reviewed articles, participated in numerous national and international congresses, carried out different stages in highly recognised international centres and supervised three doctoral Thesis and several master dissertations.
During her period at the Aragon Health Sciences Institute (IACS), she also collaborated as associate lecturer at the Human Anatomy and Histology Department of the University of Zaragoza (2011 – 2017), where in 2018 she obtained her current position as lecturer.
From January 2017 to September 2018, she made an incursion at the private sector as manager of the Antibody Production Department at Certest Biotec, where she obtained an important experience in the development and production of monoclonal antibodies.
Recently, she joined the Tissue Microenvironment Group to start a new line of research based on her multidisciplinary experience, working in the development of intestinal microfluidic in vitro models to study the role of microbiota and the immune response in the development and progression of colorectal cancer.
