Development of an organ-on-chip model of the follicle for in vitro maturation of human oocytes. MERCK23/01
Currently, 15-20% of oocytes obtained in an ovarian puncture from a woman's stimulation cycle are immature and not used. In vitro maturation of these oocytes would optimize assisted reproduction cycles, making better use of these eggs and increasing pregnancy options. It could also be the technique of choice for some cases where ovarian stimulation is not indicated, such as oncology patients about to receive imminent treatment, patients at high risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, and patients with ovarian failure. Our goal is to study the importance of the different cell types that make up the follicle for maturation to recreate for the first time an organ-on-chip for in vitro maturation of human oocytes.
